About Us
Publishers Weekly reports on the book "Startup Nation": "Hampered by an Arab nation boycott that makes regional trade impossible and endowed with precious little by way of natural resources, Israel has beaten the odds to become a major player in the global business world, especially in the technology sector. With the highest number of startups per capita of any nation in the world and massive venture capital investment, Israel is one of the world's entrepreneurship hubs......a number of factors, including the social networks and leadership training provided by Israel's mandatory military and reserve service, a culture of critique fostered by centuries of Jewish tradition and an open immigration policy for Jews that continually restocks Israel's population with motivated people from around the world—all of which foster a business climate in which risk is embraced and good ideas are given a chance to grow." We could not have summarized it better, and the implications are clear----- Israel breeds some of the better investment opportunities in the technology arena.
Being of Israeli origin, involved in investing and advising Israeli technology companies, the facts summarized by Startup Nation were known to us and to our friends. But there was simply no U.S. angel investment club dedicated to these companies. So we formed one in 2007.
Bottom line, Tevel is the ONLY US angel club that is exclusively focused on bringing together US accredited investors and Israeli technology companies, and the ONLY cross-border angel club. Since then, our members invested in more than 15 companies, selected from more than 50 that presented (which were selected from more than 300 that applied to present).
Our executive committee, which is composed of successful investors, entrepreneurs and executives, carefully evaluates and screens the numerous companies applying to Tevel angel club, eventually choosing 3-5 most promising companies to present before our group of angels in NYC and Tel-Aviv. All angel members of Tevel in the U.S. are required to be Accredited Investors as individuals or as representatives of such entities.
Tevel was founded by Dr. Oren Fuerst (the Managing Director of Strategic Models, a serial entrepreneur and angel investor who now manages Tevel) and Oren Heiman (the Managing Partner of the Shiboleth law firm).
